We will investigate your suspicions and advise on your best course of action. Sadly the police forces of England and Wales no longer consider the investigation of company fraud to be a priority. Indeed, many of the specialist police fraud squads have been dissolved. In part we aim to fill that gap but we also offer clients an alternative to simply prosecuting in the Criminal Courts. By way of an example, a recent client had obtained evidence of corruption on the part of one of its former directors. The evidence suggested that he had been accepting cash of approximately £150,000 in return for the awarding of contracts. The client's first reaction was to call in the police and make a formal complaint. Had they done so, the investigations may have taken two years or more to get to Court and with each passing week there was an increased chance of the matters becoming public knowledge which could have severely damaged the client's business. Additionally, the police do not recover losses. Their function is actually the collection and collation of evidence for the prosecuting authorities. Our advice was to investigate and pursue the parties through the Civil Courts. They chose to follow this advice and together we recovered over £750,000 within twelve months with no attendant publicity.
